The Music of KALA is crafted to challenge more experienced musicians, while also giving beginner and intermediate performers opportunities to succeed and grow..
Featured roles include tuneful solos, rock-tinged bops, and pop-inspired harmonies, while each group of supporting roles has several moments to shine. Every cast and chorus member is an important part of the fabric of the show!
The pit orchestra is based around a piano-driven rock band, supplemented by a cinematic string and wind ensemble. Fun, playable books for every instrumentalist.
The violin, clarinet, and cello parts have been reduced in the Synthesizer 2 book to maximize the ensemble in larger theatres and substitute for additional instruments in smaller spaces.

Youth theatre can and should be smart, magical, and complex. Thought-provoking and enjoyable, both for the kids performing and for the adults who support them.
Too often, young performers are asked to play roles that their life experiences have left them ill-prepared to embody fully. However, this doesn't mean they are poor actors. They deserve challenging roles that allow them to genuinely explore and create characters based on the desires, hard questions, and experiences of which they have deep and present knowledge.
They can and should bring their own creative lenses and lived realities to their portrayals of these roles... to find the human in the magical and the magical in the human!
